Lurgi signs Contract for Melamine Plantin Russia
Lurgi GmbH, Frankfurt am Main, and EuroChem, Moscow, have signed two contracts with a total value of 92.7 million Euro for the design and supply of a melamine plant. The melamine unit, which will be the first of its kind in Russia, has a capacity of 50,000 tpa. It will be built within the framework of reconstruction of the carbamide production facilities on the premises of “Nevinnomyssky Azot”. The value of the complete project amounts to 184 million Euro.
The melamine unit is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010 and will start production in early 2011. Melamine is a valuable raw material for the production of various environmentally safe polymeric compounds uch as plastic materials, varnishes and glues. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance against impact of chemical compounds, high temperatures, moisture as well as attrition and cracking. It is used in the production of flame-retardant countertops and products, wood and wood boards, plastic materials, etc.
The melamine technology which was chosen for plant execution is environmentally friendly and represents no threat to the ecology of the Nevinnomyssk region.
