Scientific Missions Regulation Kit

Ultra-compact gas management systems for deep space exploration. Featuring titanium micro-spheres and miniature valves for precise inert gas flow control in planetary atmospheric and soil analysis instruments.

Powering Deep Space Science
Analyzing alien atmospheres and soil for organic compounds requires highly specialized, miniaturized instruments. Our Scientific Missions Regulation Kit provides the precise gas management necessary for analytical systems based on Gaseous Chromatography Systems coupled with mass spectrometers. By safely storing and regulating inert gases, we enable planetary rovers and landers to search for potential biosignatures across the solar system.

Miniaturized Technology for Precision Science

The kit is comprised of three ultra-compact, highly reliable components designed to manage inert gas flow with extreme precision and minimal power draw:

Titanium Micro-Sphere:

  • Function: Safely stores inert gases (He, Xe, Kr, Ar) to feed the entire analytical instrument.
  • Specs: Weighs only 200g, measures 7cm in diameter, and is equipped with a thermal valve.

Miniature Latching Valve (MLV):

  • Function: A magnetic latching valve that directs and regulates the flow of helium (100mL/min) into the equipment lines.
  • Specs: Exceptionally small (2cm x 1cm x 1cm) and operates on an efficient on/off current, drawing only 3W of electrical power.

Multi-Function Valve (MFV):

  • Function: A thermal valve that directs and regulates the flow of helium (0.1 to 20mg/s) into the equipment lines.
  • Specs: Exceptionally small (2cm x ⌀0.5cm) and operates on an efficient proportional flow, driven by an electrical current or power.

From ExoMars to DragonFly

Air Liquide’s miniaturized regulation technology is trusted for humanity's most ambitious exploratory missions. The product was originally developed and successfully deployed for the ExoMars mission in 2016, specifically supporting the MOMA (Mars Organic Molecule Analyzer) gaseous chromatography instrument.

Today, this legacy of exploration continues. We are currently in production for the upcoming DragonFly mission to Titan, working in partnership with CNES/LATMOS to provide critical fluidic control for its scientific payload.
