Insulated & equipped cryogenic tanks
High-performance cryogenic storage solutions for space propulsion. We design and manufacture aluminum tanks for LH2, LOX, and LCH4, fully equipped with insulation and fluid management systems for all launch phases.
Powering the Next Generation of space launchers
Launchers require lightweight, robust storage solutions to manage the extreme thermal conditions of cryogenic propulsion. Air Liquide provides end-to-end expertise in the design and manufacturing of insulated tanks for liquid hydrogen (LH2), liquid oxygen (LOX), and liquid methane (LCH4). From the Ariane program to future reusable vehicles, our tanks ensure fuel stability and structural integrity from lift-off to orbit.
Fully equipped for flight conditions
Our tanks are complex fluid management systems designed for flight. Built from high-grade aluminum and assembled using precision TIG welding, each tank is fully equipped to handle dynamic launch environments.
Key integrated technologies include:
- Internal & external insulation: To maintain cryogenic temperatures.
- Fluid Management: Anti-vortex devices, baffles for stability, and anti-sloshing systems.
- Monitoring: High-precision level gauges, pressure sensors, and thermal sensors.
Large-Scale Manufacturing Capacities
We have the industrial capacity to produce large-scale flight models. This allows us to support a wide range of launcher programs, adapting our proven TIG welding and assembly processes to specific mission requirements.
Comprehensive In-House Cryogenic Testing
Beyond design and manufacturing, we provide complete in-house cryogenic testing capabilities for all space hardware. We rigorously validate our insulated tanks under representative flight conditions using actual propellants, including liquid hydrogen (LH2), liquid oxygen (LOX), and liquid methane (LCH4). This dedicated testing ensures uncompromising safety, structural integrity, and fluid management performance prior to launcher integration.

A trusted partner: From Ariane 1 to Ariane 6
Reliability is our legacy. We manufactured and delivered all LOx/LH2 tanks for the Ariane 5 program. Today, we serve as the Cryogenic Authority for Ariane 6 tanks, continuing to set the standard for cryogenic storage in Europe. With more than 800 cryotanks produced for flight models, our track record speaks for itself.
